Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'My Two Countries' offers a unique glimpse into the life and times of Nancy Astor, a pioneering figure in British politics. unbound. 1 page, 10.25 x 8.25 inches, St. James Square, London, November 9, 1927. Written to Mrs. Harcourt Williams, wife of the beloved stage actor and director, declining an invitation, in full: "It is so kind of all of you to want me to come on December 15th, but, alas, I am afraid I cannot possibly manage it; I only wish I could. I am, however, finding it increasingly difficult to make arrangements outside my own constituency (which I feel has the first claim on any time I can spare from my work here in London - there is so much to be done). I appreciate so much your kind offer of hospitality, and am sorry not to be able to avail myself of it. With many more thanks, [adding last word in holograph] & regards." Natural folds and a small crease, but still in very good condition. Accompanied by a 6 x 4-inch (plus borders) black-and-white image of Astor, taken from a book, perfect for framing. American-born English socialite best remembered for becoming the first woman to sit as a member of Parliament in the House of Commons. Her feud with Prime Minister Winston Churchill is still considered legendary.
