Soft cover. Zustand: Good. An eclectic mix of merchandise from Little Cranberry Island's turn-of-the-century general store, as well as glass plate negatives from photographs of the Island taken by Bartlett's father, Fred Morse, around the turn-of-the-century. From these childhood explorations of the attic came a grown person's curiosity about life on Little Cranberry Island at the turn-of-the-century. So, Marie Locke asked her grandmother, Irene Morse Bartlett, to tell her about what life was like on the Island when she was a child. The reminiscences of Irene Bartlett illustrate the photographs, rather than the other way around. Combined with the Morse photographs, and pictures of the objects of everyday life as found in a general store, these Memories of a Maine Island make for fascinating reading. A highly successful piece of oral and visual history that rescues the nuances of everyday island living from being forgotten. Authentic Tone: Rather than feeling like a dry academic text, the narrative is celebrated for its heartbeat, warmth, and deep personal connection to the descendants of the island.
