The resonant state of the open quantum system is studied from the viewpoint of the outgoing momentum flux. The work shows that the number of particles is conserved for a resonant state, if an expanding volume of integration is used in…order to take account of the outgoing momentum flux. The number of particles would decay exponentially in a fixed volume of integration. New numerical methods of treating the resonant state are introduced with the use of effective potential. This report was prepared as a preprint of work performed as a collaboration research of the National Institute for Fusion Science (NIFS) of Japan. The views presented here are solely those of the authors. This document is intended for information only and may be published in a journal after some rearrangement of its contents.

Quantum mechanically intriguing phenomena such as complete reflection and nonadiabatic tunneling are emphasized. The Zhu-Nakamura theory that can deal with non-negligible classically forbidden transitions is explained. Furthermore, by controlling nonadiabatic transitions induced by an external field such as laser, designing chemical reaction dynamics as we desire is shown to be theoretically possible.
