Hardbound. Zustand: As New. New. Contents Preface. 1. Media and development. 2. Development journalism a perspective. 3. Development news an analysis. 4. Development journalism what next. Bibliography. Index. The purpose of development journalism is to educate and inform the citizen about the developmental issues and thereby make him/her participate in the national development. Since majority of the population in the third world countries are illiterate the newspapers as public educator can take up issues that are of immediate concern to the citizens. Newspapers have a two step function first newspapers select certain events to attract the attention of the policy makers and set an agenda for public action second newspapers also frame the issues telling the readers what is important to know. Instead of a news report it can be an interpretative report. This shift in journalism in future will make the newspapers relevant to the society to stand as a public institution which strives for the welfare of the society. 140 pp.

Hardcover. Zustand: New. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: New. 1st Edition. Contents: Preface. 1. Introduction. 2. Gandhi and journalism. 3. Gandhi, journalism and values. 4. Gandhi and peace journalism. 5. Gandhi and development journalism. 6. Content analysis of select newspapers. 7. Conclusion. Appendices. Bibliography. Index. Mahatma Gandhi an apostle of non violence has set certain standards for humanity to live a peaceful life. He is a role model to many international personalities who achieved fame by following the peaceful methods set by him. His way of life is an example to many people in India and even today we find people following Gandhian methods in all spheres of life. Even in journalism Gandhi specifically set certain principles and objectives for journalists. Though he maintained that journalism was a by product to promote his ideology he scrupulously adhered to ethics and values in journalism. He pronounced that newspapers should serve the people and for this purpose he identified three objectives for newspapers: one of the objectives of the newspaper was to understand popular feeling and to give expression to it another was to arouse among the people certain desirable sentiments and the third was fearlessly to expose popular defects. Hardbound. Zustand: As New. New. Contents Acknowledgements. 1. Gandhian journalism. 2. Gandhiji journalism and values. 3. Gandhiji and peace journalism. 4. Gandhiji and development journalism. 5. Conclusion. Appendix. Bibliography. Index. Gandhian journalism began in India nearly 140 years after the first newspaper was started by a European James Augustus Hickey in 1780. Since then very few publications came into existence which were launched both by the Britishers and Indians. Prominent among them were Rajarammohan Roy's Sambad kaumadi which was launched in 1822 while Fardoonji Murzban started the Vernacular newspapers in Gujarati Bombay Samachar in the same year. It was interesting to note that all the English dailies had 4000 subscribers out of which 125 were Indian subscribers in 1823. Mahatma Gandhi was instrumental in launching Indian Opinion in 1903 a weekly which started publication in four languages English Hindi Tamil and Gujarati with an intention to serve all Indians in South Africa. Two close associates of Gandhiji Madanjit Vyavaharik and Manshuklal Hiralal Nazar launched Indian Opinion on June 4 1903. As the two gentlemen could not run the journal the responsibility fell on the shoulders of Gandhiji who took over the journal in October 1904. His friend Albert West who gave up his business as a printer was managing it while Gandhiji was editing the journal with the sole intention of educating and mobilizing Indians through the weekly columns on various aspects of life. The journal in particular carried the popular biographical sketches of eminent men in many parts of the world such as Count Tolstoy Abraham Lincoln George Washington and Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar. The reader will find it very informatic useful for students to understand Gandhian views and ways of effective writing. 88 pp.

With the proliferation of news channels in the country the work force has correspondingly grown in the country In India Jeffrey 2000 estimated that there were 4700 journalists in early 1960s and around 13000 in 1990s In the year 1990s India had about 25000 journalists on wages or retainers which came up to one journalist for every 35000 people This excluded thousands of stringers and contributors Although the work force is increasingly going up very few studies have been conducted to examine the sociological issues involved in the career of media men or women However a few studies that are available in the country have focused on the media men or media women who are working in the print media Unlike the earlier studies the present study has attempted to study the sociological issues of media women who include print journalists television anchors script writers and radio announcers 163 pp.

Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. 484 p. Includes: illustrations, index. The Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme, now known better by its abbreviation IGMDP, is perhaps the first programme in India which brought together a large number of R&D laboratories, government departments, industries and academic institutions in the country within an integrated structure involving all the groups in a functional network. The Programme was visionary and ambitious, aiming at the same time, deliveries to the Services as the end goal in a reasonable time frame. It caught the attention and imagination of the people with successes and they also shared our disappointments at failures. This book chronicles the genesis, progress and current status of development of the state-of-the-art guided missiles under the IGMDP. The need for realistic assessments of technical expertise, manpower, cost and time and the gains accrued to the country have been emphasized in the book.
