Ex-Library copy, with expected inserts, stamps and inscriptions. Pages are moderately tanned and occasionally foxed throughout. Tearing to top of front free end paper. Cracking to hinges, no damage to end papers. Text block is coming away from boards at rear hinge. Some occasional mild cracking to gutters throughout, binding remains reasonably firm. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Mild crushing to spine ends, with fraying cloth and small splits. Gilt lettering has become dull. Book has a slight forward lean. Boards have minor damp and dust stains. Unclipped jacket has moderate edge-wear with chips, tears and creasing.

The work was an instant hit and sold to Hollywood for a movie.However the book was pulped by the publishers following a London aristocrat suing for libel. He believed he was identifiable in the story. However instead of paying out, the publishers simply pulped the book leaving this as a very scarce survivor.From the blurb:A Crooked Sixpence is a book about people from many different backgrounds. Murray Sayle started his literary career as a newspaper boy, he slowly rose through these ranks to become the editor of the Sydney University student newspaper. He wrote this book in 1958.
