An Idea of a Law School: Ideas from The Law School was conceived when a seminar was conducted to celebrate the silver jubilee of the establishment of the first National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore. The seminar covered a wide variety of topics but primarily focussed on the legal profession. The talks at the seminar became chapters in this book over the last six years, thanks to the efforts of a few alumni and Dr N.R. Madhava Menon. This book is a collection of the thoughts of some of the alumni of the NLSIU. Further, the book highlights the thoughts, experiences of NLSIU alumni and their contribution in diverse areas to showcase Prof. Menon's vision of NLSIU alumni as "social engineers". It should give readers a sense of the institution and the impact it has had over the last 30 years. The collection of essays offers a chance to imagine the future of law schools. It represents a collective interest of the law school alumni to make their alma mater a torchbearer in directing the next generation of legal education and access to justice. It is hoped that this collection of essays will nurture and inculcate the ideas which Prof. Menon cherished.
