All but four in the original turquoise printed outer wrappers with the subscriber's small name and address label on the front wrap. Includes an 1887 index printed on one uncut octavo sheet. Scattered soiling and chipping to the edges of the wraps, some are split along the spine folds, a few issues lack the rear wrap, very good. A nice collection of Harper's weekly children's magazine, celebrated for publishing the work of America's best illustrators and writers of young adult fiction. Included in this set are the first printed appearances of: "The Three Fortunes" and "The Princess on the Glass Hill," written and illustrated by Howard Pyle, "Five Shares in the Fresh-Air Fund" by James Otis, Rosina Emmet Sherwood's illustrations of "Von Nipkin's Defeat" by Boudinot Colt, and W.A. Rogers illustrations (including the front cover) of "Buster Bill" by May Cooper. The set also includes many other illustrations by Rogers, one front cover illustration by Frederick Stuart Church: "Mr. Bear Had Hearkened Too Long to Evil Counsel," and serialized stories by Kirk Munroe, William O. Stoddard, and others. A scarce set seldom found in the original wrappers.
