Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - The ocean is transparent to sound where slight irregularities within the ocean cause sound fluctuations, and thus set limits on the many uses of sound in the ocean, similar to the limits imposed by the atmosphere on ground-based telescopes. This 1979 book attempts to connect the known structure of the ocean volume with experimental results in long-range sound transmission. Theories of wave propagation through irregular media, developed for optical and radio wave transmission are found to be inapplicable in many respects due to the complications of ocean structure, particularly the combination of anisotropy and 'sound channel'. The authors extend wave propagation theory to account for the ocean complications and introduces the path-integral approach to the solution of the strong-scattering regime that solves many long-standing problems. The book is written at the post-graduate level, but has been carefully organised to give experimenters a grasp of important results without undue mathematics.…

In recent years a number of genes have been identified as strong determinants for particular forms of cancer (particularly colon and breast cancer). The incomplete penetrance often evinced by the mutations of these genes has raised the possibility that additional endogenous or exogenous determinants contribute to cancer development or suppression. The major aim of this book is to present an integrated view of the various environmental, epidemiological and genetic determinants that contribute to a disease syndrome collectively known as 'cancer'. Different cancer types can result from a multiplicity of environmental and genetic factors. Molecular epidemiology has focused recently on elucidating relationships between particular genetic alterations and the type of environmental exposure. Several genes have been identified as strong determinants for a number of cancer types. The incomplete penetrance often evidenced by mutations of these genes has raised the possibility that additional endogenous or exogenous determinants are involved in cancer development or suppression. Roshko Is Known For His Contributions To Gas Dynamics. He Along With H. W. Liepmann Is The Co-Author Of The Widely Used Textbook "Elements Of Gasdynamics". He Has Made Research Contributions To Problems Of Separated Flow; Bluff-Body Aerodynamics; Structure Of Turbulent Shear Flow. He Completed His Undergraduate Education At The University Of Alberta With A B.Sc. Degree In Engineering Physics, In 1945, Received The M.Sc. Degree From Caltech In 1947 And The Ph.D. In 1952.
