Noting UN neglect of Arab concerns and aspirations until now, this publication takes the opportunity to define Arab Nationali…sm by drawing on statements made to the UN General Assembly during its Third Emergency Session, held on 8 August 1958 in response to the Lebanon Crisis. It quotes extensively from statements made by the Chairs of delegations from Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Lebanon, Morocco, Yemen, The Sudan, and Tunisia. It then contrasts these with the statements made by non-Arab countries, questioning the extent to which they share Arab views, their appreciation of Arab history, contribution to human progress, etc, quoting from the US, UK and France, USSR, Spain and Latin America, Asian-African states, and European and other Western states. It concludes that the Arab peoples constitute one nation, Arabs are rising to regain independence and unity, it is a people's movement, Arab-West relations will deteriorate further if this is ignored, and should be encouraged to avoid a power vacuum.
