Von Muffling was Blucher's liaison with Wellington and as a noted military theorist played a part in the planning of the victory over Bonaparte during the Waterloo campaign, he was also a signatory to the Convention of St Cloud that brought an end to the Wars. Sir John Sinclair was a Scottish politician who visited Waterloo in 1815 and corresponded with Wellington. He interviewed survivors of the battle and persuaded Muffling to publish his account in English. xii, 160pp. First English language edition from the original German edition. Rebound in three-quarter calf with marbled paper to remainder. Morocco title plate to spine with gilt lettering. Spine has five raised bands and a little gilt decoration. Private bookplate to free endpaper of Lt.-Col. Desmond Vigors, RA. Title page heavily foxed, light foxing to various pages, all pages are toned at extreme edges. Map is complete, but crisp and toned. Small (approx. 1cm) closed tearto fold of folding map. Pages rippled.
