Square 64mo's, unpaginated, approx pp70 each Volume with b/w illustrations throughout each. All volumes bound with pictorial paper covered boards in fair to good condition with chipping, rubbing and splits with pieces missing to 3 of the spines. There is rubbing to all edges and some marking to fore edges. Inside some cracking to spines, however all bindings still holding. All pages in volumes in surprisingly clean condition with a little yellowing and the odd mark. Mrs Herbert Strang was actually the pseudonym of of George Herbert Ely (1866-1958) & C James L'Estrange (1867-1947) who were staff members of the Oxford University Press.

The cover and jacket illustration show a girl sitting at the wheel of a motor car.

Originally, it came with at least 4 little card figures, but these are not present. 2 children visit the fictional village of Hatherby during their holidays, and find out what is available in the various shops there. A very quaint glimpse of life in an English village in the 1930s/40s.
