Hardback. Zustand: Very Good. Presumed First Edition. No stated date c1903 or 1905. Presumed first edition. 51pp. including 24 full-page coloured chromolithograph illustrations. Mary Frances Ames (1860-1914) wrote and illustrated children's books and humorous books for adults. She published as Mrs Ernest Ames, sometimes in collaboration with her husband. This is one of her books for children. "Once upon a time there lived a very lonely little boy called Tim, and as he had no brothers or sisters he was sometimes quite dull and sad because he had no one to play with. Every night the Dusty Man came to see Tim and call him to bed, as he does indeed all the boys and girls and even men and women in the whole world once in every 24 hours." The book is bound in the original paper covered boards with green titling and a colour illustration on the front board and a red cloth spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling and staining to the boards. The paper covering the edges and corners of the boards is chipped with a little loss. The spine ends are bumped with some damage to the cloth and there are splits of about 1/2" in the cloth at the bottom of the spine. The contents are secure although the boards feel a bit loose as there is a split down the spine gutter of the rear endpapers and the front free endpaper has been removed. There is a 1 1/2" tear on the fore edge of the title-page that has been repaired with document repair tape. The pages are clean with no inscription. Mrs. Ernest Ames (illustrator).…

All about the enchanting dreams of a darling 2 year old boy. Recased with matching blue cloth spine and corners, new yellow endpapers, white boards darkened to grey, some inner joints neatly repaired with paper strips, a crease to inner margin of 1 text page strengthened with linen binder's tape, this text page reinserted the wrong way round, 2 pages slightly worn at 1 edge with tiny nicks. Contents otherwise nice, no inscriptions. A good plus tight copy. As soon as Master Johnnie's Nanny puts him to bed Little Boy Blue arrives and takes him off in Cinderella's coach 'To the beautiful land.//Where pots of jam/Grow on the ground;/Plum-pudding birds/Fly all around.//And buns and cakes,/And dolls and sheep,/Lie side by side/In a lovely heap'.
