In den Warenkorb4to. menor; XII-310 pp. Encuadernación en media piel, de la época, con pérdida en pie de la lomera. Benjamin G. Ferris (1802-1891) un notable abogado de Ithaca, New York, casado con Cornelia Woodcock en 1830, fue nombrado Gobernador del Territorio de Utah por el Presidente Millard Fillmore en el año 1852. Cornelia acompañó a su esposo a Great Salt Lake City la capital del nuevo Estado llamado inicialmente "Deseret", la Nueva Jerusalén en la Tierra de Canaan hallada por Brigham Young, por la época en que la noticia de las arenas de oro de Fort Suttler se convertía en la fiebre californiana y los mormones ya no estaban solos en el desierto. La estancia de ambos en Utah no fue larga, y solamente sabemos que cada cual salió por su lado. Benjamin publicó en 1854 "Utah and the Mormons" y Cornelia con el seudónimo de Maria Ward en 1855 ésta "Female Life among the Mormons", en la que dice intentar mostrar los horrores y abominaciones del sistema de los mormones y la degradación que impone a las mujeres. El traductor Benedict Henry Revoil (1816-1882) que vivió en los Estados Unidos entre 1842 y 1851, supone la presente diatriba feminista anti-mormona escrita por una ex-miembro de la secta, y hace en el Prefacio un detallado resúmen de los avatares de la misma desde el General Bennet y Joseph Smith (1805-1844) hasta el momento.…
