Child is meant to spin the pieces and line them up to complete the full picture. This one is in very nice shape with one corner bend. Original box is included in good condition, although interlocking flap is missing and a gift inscription on box. Ads for other Whirly Pics puzzles on box. No date, but late 40s to early 50s. Puzzle image depicting young girl on a carousel horse.

This is album no. 1 in the Serie Gioconda in the Collezione " La Rana Verde ". The Italian text tells the story of puma which wanders into a group of Native American children. The booklet of text slides left, causing the figures on the front of the backing board to move and reveal.

Original white printed paper-covered lidded box (7.5x11x4cm) containing ten (of twelve) unused die-cut, folded and moveable bridge party invitations (ca. 6x10cm) with accompanying envelopes (6.5x10cm -- eleven of twelve present). Light dust-soil to box, the die-cut portion on one card creased, else a Very Good example, though sadly not quite complete. Sweet and saucy collection of bridge party invitations depicting a group of four stylish blond women seated at a table, the tablecloth serving as a moveable flap which, when lifted, displays the women's bare and shapely legs and ankles.

4to. With 8 dissolving pictures in perfect working order. A little shaken but a nice bright copy in the original glazed pictorial cloth backed boards with a bruise to the bottom edge.

Folio. With 8 colour scenes featuring characters from Punch and Judy; Scene II lacks the characters. Original cloth backed coloured boards a little worn along the edges and the whole a little shaken. Old Hamley's stamp to front board, adverts to rear board. The larger format [365 mm] and very scarce issue of this moveable more commonly seen as a 4to. [29 mm.] The V&A has the only U.K. location traced.

Hardcover. Zustand: Good. 4to. Cloth spine, printed paper boards. Unpaginated, Eight full page hand-colored moveable plates telling the story of Red Riding Hood . All moveables are in good working order. Inner hinges have been neatly repaired, and a few rivets have been replaced; there is fingering and soil on the pages, the covers are rubbed and worn .Overall it is a very good copy of an extremely scarce early moveable. Montanaro, p. 259, opines that this was probably published in 1857. Our copy has an inscription dated 1861. .

6 pages of music with lyrics, 265 x 180 mm. with the cover printed in orange with a central pull up bouquet of flowers which when opened out shows a sentimental scene of a father coming home from sea to his family home for the holiday season. The chorus begins "Let's fan up the flame.".

A beautifully illustrated colour manuscript Meiji period "house geomancy" ?? plan, folded, scale 1:50. On heavy good quality Japanese paper. Pop-up walls, gate and some buildings, turnable geomantic compass. Some creasing, light soiling or browning but generally very good. 179 x 95cm. House divination originated in ancient China and became popular in Japan from the 19th century on. The idea of the house divination remains popular in Japan to this day. This beautiful sheet gives a detailed floor plan of a traditional Japanese house designed for a person of high status. This house was possibly on the grounds of Tenshindo? in Yamanashi, (near Tokyo)as Tenshindo? is mentioned in the text. The 24 red lines which represent 24 hexagrams diverge from the central movable paper geomantic compass indicating 24 directions. The geomantic compass, its range taking in the entire plan, enables the planner to be certain that rooms and objects will be placed in such a way as to benefit the residents. By the same token the compass serves to make sure that planning does not work to the detriment of the residents.

Poor. Zustand: Stiff card wraps. 4to. Bound in thin card with covers printed in color. 16 pp., printed on one side only, with eight full page hand-colored illustrations showing Punch and Judy, et al., in the upper portion with text and drummer below. Each plate has moveable parts operated by a lever at the foot which operates the movement in the upper window; in addition 3 of the drummers move when the tabs are activated. The drummers on the remaining pages have their arms in the form of tabs which fit into a slit in the page. They are affixed on the other side. There is nothing to suggest that they were ever intended to move. To the best of our knowledge all copies of this title have all puppets movable but only three drummers. It is as though Dean had intended to make them all movable but gave up on the idea. Later printing of this work have the drummers all immovable, printed on the page with the text reset to go around the illustrations. This is a very good copy of a truly rare item. There is general soil from use; several tabs have been strengthened or replaced, but all of the moveable scenes are operative. Montanaro, p. 69. The dating of this item is problematic, but likely about 1859. Montanaro suggests a date of 1860, but the Cotsen copy in the Diana Rexford Tillson collection has an inscription dated March, 1859. The rear board has the code 4000--3,59 which indicates a publication date of March, 1859. Dean and Son was the first publisher to produce movable books on a large scale. In the late 1850's, the firm can be credited with inventing another first: the use of a mechanism that moved or was animated by pulling a tab.
