Hardback, 4to. approx 9.5 x 8.5 inches. Original publisher's colour pictorial paper covered boards, front and back; blue cloth spine. In good condition. With some professional restoration so all pop up work perfectly. Some rubbing to edges & corners. Some slight foxing to pages. Small Name on front endpaper (Jane Tate). Else a good clean and tight, very scarce copy. Features wonderful 6 colour illustrated pages, including 2 with a pull-along mechanism, 1 with a turntable, and 1 template. First English edition of the original transformation picture book; the first German edition was published in 1927 under the title "Das Wunderhaus" (The House of Wonders). A pull-along mechanism demonstrates the daily routine of a family in a house and the colourful hustle and bustle of a puppet theatre. A turntable allows you to follow the race between the hare and the hedgehog, and on the back, the action on a Chinese bridge and in a boat.
