Text volume only This carefully assembled volume brings to light the forgotten history of the priory of Notre-Dame des Moulineaux, a modest but ancient house belonging to the austere Order of Grandmont. Founded in the 12th century, the Grandmontines?never as numerous as the Benedictines or Cistercians?nonetheless established a network of priories across France, often in close relation with local seigneuries. The priory of Moulineaux depended on the larger priory of Louye-lès-Dourdan, and its surviving documentation is scarce. The collection draws directly on the archival holdings of the royal Domaine de Rambouillet, preserving charters, concessions, and legal acts concerning both the priory and the castellany of Poigny. These pieces?many in Latin, some in Old French?shed light on monastic privileges, feudal rights, property disputes, endowments, and confirmations by kings and bishops. The chronological scope extends across the Middle Ages and into the ancien régime, situating Moulineaux and Poigny within the ecclesiastical and seigneurial landscape of the diocese of Chartres. Beyond their local interest, these documents are important for understanding the interplay between religious orders and royal administration, especially as Rambouillet grew in importance as a royal residence. For the Order of Grandmont in particular?long overshadowed by the great monastic congregations?such publications are among the few printed sources available to reconstruct its institutional footprint. A work of archival erudition and local history, produced in the scholarly spirit of the 19th century, and today a valuable resource for collectors and historians of ecclesiastical law, French medieval monasticism, and the feudal geography of Île-de-France.
