Publication of the Metropolitan Museum of Art Egyptian Expedition. Frontispiece chromolithograph; printed tissue guards. Documentation of the excavation of the undisturbed tomb of Senebtisi. "The tomb is published as a unit in itself, and there will be no discussion in the present volume of tits relation either to the other tombs in the cemetery, or to the mastaba within the enclosure walls of which it was situated." (Introduction). Dedication in pencil on front free endpaper: "Presented to John Ha. Slecum by Marshall C. Lefferts, March 26, 1923." Little is known about this woman who lived at the end of the 12th Dynasty. In her undisturbed tomb records were found indicating a second name for her, Zathapy (daughter of Apis, a son of Hathor, a primary deity in the pantheon of ancient Egypt), bearing the common title "Lady of the House." Her mummified body was placed in a set of three coffins. The volume is beautifully illustrated with numerous in-text drawings and thirty-five plates rendered lithographically, three of them in color. Contains list of illustrations and plates at front, appendix with notes on the mummy, indices of names of objects from the painted coffins, authorities cited and general index at end of text. Binding with some wear along edges, light chipping at corners and head, more pronounced at tail of spine. Leather somewhat rubbed. inside gutters expertly repaired. Offsetting of plates to printed tissue guards throughout. Uncut at bottom and foredge. Binding in good, interior in very good condition.

The seven signatures are each cut from a letter. They are mounted in two columns on a page of grey paper, roughly 22.5 x 27.5 cm, removed from an autograph album. In fair condition, on lightly-aged paper with occasional light spotting. At the head of the page is the word 'Horseman', with each individuals occupation in the same hand on the mount beneath his autograph. One (2.5 x 11 cm): ' delivery? | Yrs truly | Roderic Owen' ['Gentleman rider']. Two (5.5 x 11.5 cm): ' Yrs truly | Sam Darling' ['trainer']. Three (3.5 x 12 cm): ' Yours very sincerely | C.
