Vianney's profound reflections continue to inspire and enlighten readers to this day, offering timeless wisdom for spiritual growth and renewal." ; "Jean-Marie-Baptiste Vianney, known as the Curé of Ars, was a French Catholic priest who earned a formidable reputation for his piety, humility, and dedication to the pastoral care of his parishioners. Born on May 8, 1786, in Dardilly, near Lyon, Vianney grew up amidst the turmoil of the French Revolution, which profoundly shaped his spiritual path. Despite initial struggles with his studies, particularly Latin, his devoutness and determination led him to be ordained a priest in 1815. In 1818, he was appointed the parish priest of Ars, a small town where he would serve until his death in August 1859. His collection of 'Sermons of the Curé of Ars' embodies the essence of his pastoral teachings and provides a window into his spiritual counsel to his parishioners. These homilies reflect Vianney's commitment to the moral and spiritual upliftment of his flock and his focus on the sacrament of penance as a means for reconciliation with God. Known for his austere lifestyle and tireless work ethic, he was often found in the confessional for up to 16 hours a day, guiding the faithful towards repentance and sanctity. Although not a prolific writer, his sermons were collated posthumously, highlighting his earthly wisdom and deep faith. Vianney's legacy lives on, as he was canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church in 1925 and is revered as the patron saint of parish priests. His life's work remains an enduring inspiration to clergy and laypersons alike for spiritual dedication and compassion." ; some edge wear to spine ; G. Book.…
