Bound in blindstamped geometrical patterned green cloth to both boards with gilt butterflies to the front board and ornate gilt butterflies, caterpillars, flowers and titles to the spine, yellow endpapers. Royal Octavo, 26 x 17 cm The boards and spine are clean with bright gilt with the cloth worn at the corners as well as two small patches of loss at the top rear joint, former owners handmade bookplate to the front pastedown, a little light foxing intermittently present throughout largely affecting the margins of both pages and plates with many still clean and clear, some gutters visible but binding remains firm and square, in very good condition.

Complete in seven volumes.Bound in attractive uniform cloth, with decorative gilt.This set also includes the uncommon seventh volume, which was published to contain a facsimile list of subscriber's autographs, with a full list of subscribers to the index.Each volume is adorned with a frontispiece, illustrative title page and thirty-eight colour plates by Alexander Francis Lydon, coloured by Benjamin Fawcett.Descriptions of the county seats, including their history and context behind specific design features, are provided by the Rev. Francis O. Morris, an Anglo-Irish clergyman. He was most notable as an ornithologist and as the author of many children's books, as well as books on natural history and heritage buildings.Morris, Lydon and Fawcett continuously collaborated together, with Morris and Fawcett's relationship in particular having a profound effect on British ornithology. In the original uniform decorative cloth bindings. Externally, very smart with rubbing and bumping to the extremities, heaviest to the spines. Tide marks to the rear boards and spines of Vol I, V and VI. Light marks to the boards. Internally, generally firmly bound. Front free endpapers are disbound but present to Vol VII. Pages are generally bright and clean. Offsetting caused by the plates affecting the opposing leaves to Vol I. With scattered spots to the first and last few leaves and occasional spotting throughout each volume. Very Good. book.
