Erstausgabe
First Edition. Octavo. 23.5cm. Publisher's dark blue pebble grain leatherette, titled and decorated in gilt to spine and front board. 179pp. Sturdily produced, but without much attention to materials, the gilt is cheap and dulled, and there's a little surface wear to the binding, strong and tight; internally clean and fresh, with the ownership signature of J.H.S. Ellis to the front flyleaf. A very good, strong copy. A curiosity of book publishing that seems to have been privately created partly as a defense of the role of unimpeded journalism in modern society, and part as a blatant support piece for The American Weekly, a Sunday supplement published by the Hearst Corporation for the first 7 decades of the 20th century. Seeing as the TAW ran for another 36 years after this work was published, it seems to have helped. From the library of J.H.S. "Jimmie" Ellis, president of the Kudner ad agency, and one of the original "Mad Men" who revitalized the US auto industry (among others), as well as having a lasting effect upon American social history.
