Dr William Serle, late of the Colonial Medical Service, was in West Africa for over twenty years - mainly in Nigeria and the Cameroons. In this guide he is mainly concerned with the birds of the rain forest and adjoining moist savanna and the montane areas, and has revised the whole text and compiled the Checklist of species (p. 263). Dr G?rard J. Morel has been stationed in West Africa - in Senegal - for some twenty years, engaged in ornithological research under the auspices of the Office de la Recherche Scientifique et Technique Outre-Mer (ORSTOM). In this book he is mainly concerned with the birds of the dry savanna in the thorn scrub and sub-desert zones.
