Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Dalkey Archive Press first introduced readers to this 'best-kept secret' of British literature with the hardback Collected Writings of Olive Moore in 1992. Spleen, the best of the author's three novels, tells the disturbing story of a woman who goes into self-imposed exile to an island off the coast of Italy after giving birth to a deformed child. Filled with self-reproach and guilt about her son and her life (having yearned to give birth to something 'new and rare', she blames herself for her son's deformity), Ruth broods on what it means to be a woman ('nature's oven for nature's bun') and the inequalities between the sexes. Filled with the colors and beauty of the Italian countryside and in a style similar to Virginia Woolf's, Spleen challenges the assumption that women can't help but be tender and maternal, that their heads are only 'ever-enlarging hearts'.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Business ethics studies the moral and ethical problems that arise in a professional setting. It also examines the moral values and standards that govern the conduct of individuals and organizations. Its implementation is subject to the presence of a framework of corporate policies, sustainability initiatives and the appointment of ethics officers. It can be applied in a functional capacity in the domains of finance, human resource management, production, sales and marketing and intellectual property, among others. Organizational ethics refers to the way an organization responds to an external or internal stimulus. A code of organizational ethics serves to guide and unite an organization in all its policies, programs and decisions. The creation of an ethical culture in an organizational space is subject to the drafting of an ethical code of standards, training, availability of ethical counsel and reporting systems that are confidential. This book is a valuable compilation of topics, ranging from the basic to the most complex theories and principles in the field of business and organizational ethics. It explores all the important aspects of this field in the present day scenario. This textbook, with its detailed analyses and data, will prove immensely beneficial to professionals and students involved in this area at various levels.

Slight bend to boards, wear to lower extremities, corners bruised, some darkening and cockling. Signed by Moore in black pen, in her minute hand, to limitation page. Else, clean, bright and tight. Near fine/ good-only Jisc LHD locates 7 copies (5 legal deposit libraries (except NLW/LGC), UoNottingham & Senate House Library). A rather glorious copy of this fragile and oddly attractive edition of Moore's meditation on D H Lawrence, which sold out almost immediately and within a year was "almost impossible to obtain." The elusive British author and journalist Olive Moore (pseud. of Miriam Constance Beaumont Vaughan; 1901-1979), described, variously, as an "enfant terrible of British literature," "a cross between Virginia Woolf and Djuna Barnes, but with a more biting wit," and, aptly for this title, "the female Lawrence," is perhaps best known for her sudden disappearance from the London literary scene from 1934. Recent scholarship, which has significantly swelled knowledge of her later life and work, reveals that "despite her rising success and notoriety as a novelist, Moore was clearly unhappy": "I feel on the verge of collapse; all day; I weep down streets, uncontrolled and unladylike," she wrote to the poet Rex Fairburn in 1932, the year her friends, Charles Lahr and Alec Bristow of the Red Lion Bookshop, published her Lawrence essay (Cavey, 2022). Lahr had known Lawrence well and Blue Moon Press had published the first unexpurgated edition of his final poetry collection Pansies three years earlier. 1932 saw a glut of Lawrence-related publications, the author having died in 1930. A marked departure from her earlier three novels (all published by Jarrolds), Further Reflections proved Moore's penultimate (literary) publication and was included in her final outing, the collection of pensées, The Apple is Bitten Again (Wishart, 1934), as she was "sick and tired of being quoted and plagiarised without acknowledgement". The striking photographic frontis featuring Sava Botzaris' sculpture of the author was also reproduced in The Apple Is Bitten Again (as well as being reused in the Dalkey Archive Press edition of Moore's Collected Writings (1992)). Moore had married the Serbian sculptor in 1924; they separated in the late 1930s and divorced sometime in the following decade. Sophie Cavey (2022) 'Olive Moore: A new biography' in Feminist Modernist Studies, 5:1, pp. 1-20.

Inscribed by the author on the half-title, referring to a character from the novel: 'To Mrs Lahr, though she mustn't take too seriously all that Uller has to say on marriage! Olive Moore, 3.4.32'. Also signed by the author to the title-page. The recipient was Esther Lahr (née Argeband), the wife of bookseller and publisher Charles Lahr, whose Blue Moon Press published Moore's work in the year of this gift - his 'Progressive Bookshop' on Red Lion Street was a meeting-point for authors, including Moore. A scarce book (only four locations for the first edition on COPAC) 'Spleen' is perhaps the most powerful statement by this neglected and elusive novelist, the narrative concerning a woman in self-imposed exile on an Italian island following the birth of a child with deformed feet.

In den WarenkorbFIRST EDITION, frontispiece showing sculpture of author by Sava Botzaris, some very faint spotting to opening leaves, small mark below colophon at rear, pp. [viii], 207, crown 8vo, original quarter green cloth with sides of Cockerell marbled paper in shades of green, black and gold, backstrip lettered in a darker green, dustjacket with a nick at head of front panel and very short closed tear at head of rear panel, crack to surface at margin of front panel and some very faint blotching to backstrip panel, very good. Inscribed by the author on the flyleaf: 'To Arnold Ovenden, Olive Moore'. Presentation copies of her work are rare. Moore is nothing less than forthright - the rear flap offers the term 'pungent'. The volume gathers contents of her notebooks, ranging from the aphoristic to essays on 'Woman as Uncreative Artist' and 'Further Reflections on the Death of a Porcupine' - her meditation on Lawrence (reprinted here because, she asserts in a short Foreword, 'I am sick and tired of being quoted and plagiarised without acknowledgement').
