Moderate rubbing to boards and extremities with some wear to spine ends and corners, joints starting at ends, hinges cracked, author inscription to front endleaf, light toning to interior, light foxing to preliminaries and final leaves and rear endleaves. $450. * Only edition. The Cutting Case involved an article about Emigdio Medina, a Mexican newspaper publisher, that appeared in an El Paso, Texas, newspaper. Medina brought a charge of libel against that paper's publisher, Cutting, who was later arrested when he entered Mexico. After serving considerable jail time, Cutting was released by the Mexican Court of Appeals when Medina withdrew his complaint. Most of Moore's report is devoted to the question of extraterritoriality jurisdiction. An authority on international law, Moore was a lawyer, State Department official, professor and the first American to serve as a judge of the Permanent Court of International Justice. He inscribed this copy in 1889 to William F. Wharton [1847-1919], a prominent Boston attorney and politician who served as United States Assistant Secretary of State from 1889 to 1893.
