Montulé then journeyed up the Mississippi from New Orleans on the Vesuvius, the third steamboat to ply the river, on to Albany, Buffalo, and Niagara Falls, crossing into Canada. The plates, described by Howes as "highly interesting", depict a 'View of New York from the West', 'Skeleton of the Young Mammoth in the Museum of Philadelphia', 'View of the Isle of St. Thomas', 'Entrance of the Port of St. Domingo', 'Rencounter with a Rattle Snake, on the banks of the Ohio', and 'Part of the fall of Niagara, on the side of Canada'.
