Collection of 13 vintage studio still photographs from the 1963 film, here seen under the title for its release in the US, "Escape by Night." Not to be confused with Fritz Lang's 1952 film, "Clash by Night." A bus transporting a convicted gang leader to prison is overtaken by the gang, who seek to free their leader. The gang locks the remainder of the passengers (who are mostly innocent civilians) in a gas-soaked barn and threaten to set the barn on fire in order to hold off the police. 8 x 10 inches. Vintage reference photograph taken on the set of the 1946 film noir, showing actor and director Robert Montgomery with a camera crew, capturing a scene with actor Lloyd Nolan. Annotations in manuscript pencil on the verso. An unusual and ambitious film noir, and Montgomery's final film for MGM. In a concept that originated with Montgomery, who directed, the entire film is shot from Phillip Marlowe's perspective, with the protagonist only ever visible in reflections and during a few scenes when he addresses the audience directly. 10 x 8 inches.
