The author was Associate Professor and Head of Geography at Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University in Riyadh. This work draws on his field visits to UAE during 1968-75, the last of which accompanied by his Masters students, along with surveys by Halcrow (1969), Gibba and Partners (1969), among others. He opens by emphasising the economic importance of developing agriculture in the UAE alongside oil. He describes the UAE's geography by zone, climate, water resources (rain, groundwater), its system of Falaj, tribes (drawing on the 1968 Census, and discussing recent movements), population trends in each Emirate, agriculture by land use and region, plantings, irrigation, the use of greenhouses, and research. He closes with a discussion on water projects presently underway, enriching soil quality, and the adoption of nuclear energy for electricity and seawater desalination. The maps show the distribution of Falaj in the Al Ain region, agricultural zones across the UAE, and agricultural development in and around Al Ain.
