Copenhagen castle, located in DenmarkÆs principle town during the reign of Christian IV was an obsolete medieval monstrosity totally unsuitable for this young and ambitious Renaissance king. His Majesty Christian IV intended to build a new castle in Copenhagen, but he ran out of funds, so construction began on Rosenborg, (Rose castle). Originally a summer palace planned at around 1606, construction took place1611 to 1624. In 1710 Rosenborg was turned into a museum to house the collectons of the royal family including the crown jewels. The beautiful illustrations give us a glimpse of the spectacular collection including the treasury, tapestries, weapons, furniture, clothing, and many exquisite objects of fine art.
