The only evidence of handwriting is on the front end page, Rico just barely see where a price was once penciled in the corner and then later erased. Pages are lightly toned but clean. The end pages and pastedowns do show foxing and tanning, which is due to the dust jacket paper reacting with the book pages over the decades.

En 1937, publicó en Londres Tormenta en España (Storm over Spain), un documento de primer orden para c…onocer el ambiente que se vivía en nuestro país en los meses previos al estallido de la Guerra Civil. Acompañada de una amiga, Mitchell realizó durante varias semanas en la primavera de 1936 un viaje en tren y autobús por distintas ciudades del sur de España. A lo largo de su recorrido se hospedaron en pensiones, hablaron con la gente de a pie, entraron en cafés y deambularon por caminos; en definitiva, se empaparon de la vida en la calle. El viaje no fue fácil, pues se encontraron frente a frente con huelgas, manifestaciones y escaramuzas entre dos bandos que, en su enfrentamiento por la idea del país que cada uno defendía, avanzaban inexorablemente hacia una resolución violenta de sus diferencias. Mitchell, escritora católica pero con un firme ideario anarquista, supo captar las pulsiones que movían a los españoles de su tiempo y, junto con el relato del viaje, ofrece explicaciones históricas, teorías políticas y análisis de una sociedad que se resquebraja delante de sus ojos. Entiende el conflicto desde una perspectiva distinta de las muchas crónicas de la Guerra Civil que se han escrito por extranjeros, ya que establece paralelismos entre el sufrimiento de los españoles y la turbulenta historia de Irlanda, en lo que constituye un original enfoque de una autora muy singular, como atestiguan los apartados teóricos que acompañan esta traducción. El libro, aquí traducido por primera vez al castellano, fue escrito inmediatamente después del viaje realizado por la autora, cuando la tormenta que se menciona en el título había descargado toda su fuerza sobre España. Uno de los grandes alicientes de Tormenta en España radica, precisamente, en que la autora sigue desde Inglaterra los acontecimientos del primer año de guerra mientras recuerda algunos de los escenarios por los que había pasado apenas hacía unos meses, por lo que su relato frecuentemente alcanza cotas de gran emotividad, al haber sido Mitchell una testigo, involuntaria pero perspicaz, de la tensa calma que precede a una tempestad. *** Nota: Los envíos a España peninsular, Baleares y Canarias se realizan a través de mensajería urgente.
