Un peisaj traversat si rupt de o masina sau de un rapid îsi pierde valoarea descriptiva dar cîstiga în valoare sintetica; usa vagoanelor sau oglinda masinii împreuna cu viteza cîstigata, au schimbat aspectul obisnuit al lucrurilor. Omul modern înregistreaza de o suta de ori mai multe impresii decît artistul secolului al XVIII-lea; pîna într-atît, de exemplu cît este si limbajul nostru mai plin de diminutive si abrevieri. Condensarea taNoului modern, varietatea lui, ruptura formelor este rezultanta tuturor acestora. E sigur ca evolutia mijloacelor de locomotie si rapiditatea lor îsi au contributia în noul "vizual". Multi oameni superficiali considera aceste tablouri drept anarhie, pentru ca ei nu pot urmari în domeniul pictural toata evoIutia vietii curente pe care o fixeaza acestea; se crede ca este solutia brusca a unei discontinuitati cînd, dimpotriva, pictura n-a fost niciodata atît de realista si legata de epoca sa ca astazi.
