Exploiting corruption within the law enforcement system of the Midwest, the Roger Corman-produced film has long been a cult cornerstone, and favorite of modern directors like Quentin Tarantino. Dinah (Mimieux) is an associate for a Los Angeles advertising agency, but quits her job after catching her boyfriend being unfaithful, and she leaves in a car for New York. Along the way, she picks up two hitchhikers who rob and assault her, stealing her purse and car. After she is arrested and thrown in jail, where she is raped by the guard (who receives a fatal, vengeful blow from Dinah), and meets a thief named Coley (Jones). The short-lived series followed three independent criminologistsGeorge Maharis, Yvette Mimieux, and Ralph Bellamywho took on especially dangerous, high-profile cases. In this debut episode, the trio attempt to solve a murder of a man found with a hole in his head that did not come from a bullet. The episode originally aired on October 10, 1970, on ABC.
