Contemporary calf, with red label on spine and author's surname lettered in gilt. *Milner's 'The End of Religious Controversy' was originally conceived in 1801 as a refutation of Porteu…s's 'Brief Confutation of the Chief Errors of the Church of Rome', but was not published until 1818. This rare pocket edition was issued for 'The Catholic Book Society' which was officially titled 'The Catholic Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge throughout Ireland'. No printer is given, but 5 Essex Bridge was also the address of the printer and publisher William Joseph Battersby in 1830. This copy with the bookseller's ticket of Stephen Moore, 45 Paul St. Cork.* Binding worn with joints cracked but holding, some margin wear and tears to three leaves but with no loss of meaning, otherwise a very good copy without any library stamps, inscriptions or other markings.
