Tail of book's spine a bit bumped, otherwise cloth clean. One mark at p. 138 and light spotting to prelims, otherwise clean. With twelve colour plates and fifteen in-text line drawings by Arthur Rackham. Kenneth Grahame himself originally asked Arthur Rackham to illustrate his book, but at that time it could not be managed. In the meantime the author died, and the book became a classic of the century. Mrs. Grahame approached Rackham again and this time he consented. The pictures were finished just as the war broke out in 1939 and were first published in America. This is the first UK edition, with the illustrations the author did not live to see. 8vo.
