Aubin-Louis Millin (1759-1818) was "conservateur des médailles de la bibliothèque impériale" in Paris. A member of many learned societies all over Europe, he was also connected to the society of physical sciences in Zurich which would explain the fact that his work was owned by Gaspar Schinz (presumably the painter Johann Caspar Schinz, 1797-1832 from Zurich). A German edition in 1820, and a new ed. in 1848, and a "Nouvelle galerie" in 1841 testify to the work's popularity. - Plates somewhat cropped. - Quérard, La France littéraire, VI, 137; Hoefer XXXV, 541; Graesse IV, 527.
