Considerable wear to jacket, which is missing approx. 1" square from the top of the spine, torn and creased in several pl…aces, and generally shows noticeable shelf and edge wear. Jacket is price clipped, and may be a book club edition although there is nothing explicitly stating this, and no cover dimple. Colours remain bright and unfaded. Minor soiling to the base of the book block. Binding is square and tight. Previous owner's name written large in ink on front free end paper, otherwise pages are clean and unmarked.

Published as double issue of "Identity" magazine # 17/18 1962. Selections form the novel then under contract to be published by Harper. Introduced by Albert Guerard who was the author's writing instru…ctor at Harvard. Laid in at front is a typed letter to John Cheever, dated July 24, 1962 and asking for Cheever's time to llok at the selections and if possible to avail hinself of galleys then under preparation. Additionally the author has inscribed this copy to Cheever on the title page. Paperback in pictorial wraps with saddle stapled binding. There are a number of manuscript corrections and additions in the text; presumably in the author's hand. For additional context, an intersting read (search Google) is Michael Crichton's undergraduate Harvard Crimson article/interview with Miller following the novel's publication. VG; Signed by Author.
