Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Oblong folio measuring 17" x 12". Black leather over stiff paper boards with gilt decorations and titles. Contains 104 sepia-toned or black and white gelatin silver photographs measuring between 4" x 5.5" and 10" x 14" without captions. Very good album with rubbing, chips, and short tears with near fine photographs. A photo album compiled as a gift to Alexander Millar Esquire "from his friends of The May Fair Clapham, 1903," according to a bookplate on the front free endpaper. The front board is stamped with a May Fair coat of arms which reads "All About the May Fair in the Clapham Rectory May 12,13,14, MCMIII." The album begins with a photograph of men posed by a May Fair banner, presumably people who were on the fair's committee. Following this is a large group photo of the participants of the fair in a fair tent dressed in medieval style costume. Other photos show group images of various groups in costumes including a group of women in Colonial era dresses and another group dressed in Asian inspired garments, both presumably for different performances at the fair. The stalls at the fair are also pictured with costumes, dolls, and other trinkets for sale. One photo shows a group of costumed women in a car draped in May Fair banners with a coat of arms. The final half of the album includes numerous portrait style images of women in a variety of medieval style costume. An interesting collection of photographs depicting a British May Fair celebration at the turn of the century.
