Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fine. A Sharp Left Turn Notes on a life in music, from Split Enz to Play to Strange. By Mike Chunn. Hardback, with dust jacket fine condition. 384 pages Published by Allen & Unwin, 2019 ISBN: 198854713X. This is a gripping read that works on several levels. It's the sliding-door story of someone who might have become a world-famous pop star had he not suffered from a severe phobic disorder. It's the story of an assortment of young musicians trying to find their feet as bands in the late 70s and early 80s, and the associated euphoria and craziness of that life. It's Mike's personal story of struggling with agoraphobia and eventually finding a way through. Told in Mike's own words, this is also a loving evocation of a 50s and 60s New Zealand childhood, and a beautifully written memoir that will resonate with anyone who loves a well-told story.…

Soft cover. Zustand: Good. 1st Edition. A good copy with some light signs of use. Split Enz followed an unwritten dictum: 'The people have paid to hear us - we are here to entertain!' And entertain they did, from their first performances at Auckland's 'Buck-A-Head' concerts in the mid-70s to their farewell tour in 1984. Through their many manifestations and hit song after song, from 'Under the Wheel' to 'I Got You' and 'Six Months in a Leaky Boat, Split Enz earned a special place in the hearts of New Zealanders. One of this country's most successful international acts ever, Enz spread their song net wide - 1980 saw the single 'l Got You' in the Top Twenty in eight countries. Founder member Mike Chunn documents the Split Enz story - from the Finns' beginnings in Te Awamutu to first performances in the Sacred Heart school hall, the pivotal relationship of the early days between Tim Finn and Phil Judd, and the emergence of Neil Finn's songwriting abilities, which have brought his subsequent band, Crowded House, to prominence worldwide. Chunn writes with the humour and insight that only years of friendship can produce, and examines the success achieved by the band despite the obstacles they sometimes created for themselves. From small town New Zealand in the sixties to the merry-go-round of pop stardom, the excitement that was Split Enz is brought to life. Mike Chunn is general manager of the Australasian Performing Right Association, A schoolmate of Tim Finn'smhe joined-Split Enz in 1972; on his departure in 1977, it was Chunn whosuggested Nell End as the new guitarist for Enz. He went on to form Citizen Band, and' as general manager of Mushroom Records in the early 80s brought names like Dave Dobbyn and Dance Exponents to the fore design by Phantoms.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - In the early 1970s, a group of impoverished students formed a rock band in Auckland, New Zealand, and planned their assault on the world's music charts. For a decade Split Enz fought to be understood by audiences and music critics who often struggled to accept their madcap on-stage performances and innovative sounds.Eventually, they found chart success in the UK, United States, Canada, Europe, Australia with hits like I Got You and with best-selling albums such as Mental Notes, Frenzy, True Colours, Waiata/Corroboree and Time and Tide.At home, they remain New Zealand's most successful rock band. The band launched the careers of its leader Tim Finn and brother Neil Finn who later formed the hugely-successful Crowded House and joined Fleetwood Mac.Success had its price for members of Split Enz, and founding bass-player Mike Chunn shares his inside story of the band in Stranger Than Fiction: The Life and Times of Splitz Enz, a searingly honest account of this much-loved group of musicians.…
