Unlike similar texts, it treats the MDA problems as optimization problems on matrix manifolds defined by the MDA model parameters, allowing them to be solved using (free) optimization software Manopt. The book includes numerous in-text examples as well as Manopt codes and software guides, which can be applied directly or used as templates for solving similar and new problems. The first two chapters provide an overview and essential background for studying MDA, giving basic information and notations. Next, it considers several sets of matrices routinely used in MDA as parameter spaces, along with their basic topological properties. A brief introduction to matrix (Riemannian) manifolds and optimization methods on them with Manopt complete the MDA prerequisite. The remaining chapters study individual MDA techniques in depth. The number ofexercises complement the main text with additional information and occasionally involve open and/or challenging research questions. Suitable fields include computational statistics, data analysis, data mining and data science, as well as theoretical computer science, machine learning and optimization. It is assumed that the readers have some familiarity with MDA and some experience with matrix analysis, computing, and optimization.

First edition (another was published in the same year in Paris) of this treatise on the properties of milk, and its use (and sometimes abuse) in medicine, by the Sicilian physician Giovanni Michele Gallo (1729 - 1786). The work is divided into two sections. The first half of the first volume is principally physiological, and describes the structure of the breast, and the way in which milk is secreted. This is followed by a description of the powers of milk, its various properties, and the general methods for its use in the treatment of disease (both acute and chronic) and the maintenance of health, both in infants and in adults. Gallo quotes extensively in his account, from authors both ancients (Pliny, Tacitus, Sallust) and modern (Boerhaave and Hoffman, in particular). The second volume consists of forty accounts, illustrated with case histories, of particular illnesses, and the ways in which milk and milk products can be used in their treatment and cure. Among other things, Gallo discusses convulsions, epileptic fits, rheumatism, inflammation of kidneys and stomach ulcers; as with the first part of the work, Gallo freely cites authorities such as Galen. Cette estampe est identique à une autre estampe de 1752, à l'exception de la page de titre et de la signature A2 (le nom de Morgagni remplaçant celui de Geoffroy). Geoffroy mourut le 9 mars 1752. L'ouvrage décrit trois cas : le premier concerne l'état hystérique d'une Romaine, le second la mort d'une noble, attribuée par erreur à l'herbe de Mercure, et le dernier l'asthme convulsif hystérique d'une Romaine. L'exemplaire provient de la bibliothèque du médecin militaire, alors doyen de la Faculté de Médecine et depuis peu membre de l'Académie des Sciences, Hyacinthe Théodore Baron(1707-1787). This print is identical to another printing of 1752 except for the title page and signature A2 (with the name of Morgagni for that of Geoffroy). D. Geoffroy died on 9 March 1752. The work describes three cases, the first concerning the hysterical condition of a Roman woman, the second the death of a noble girl, wrongly attributed to the herb of Mercury, and the last the convulsive hysterical asthmatic condition afflicting a Roman lady. The copy comes from the library of the military doctor, then dean of the Faculty of Medicine and recently a member of the Academy of Sciences, Hyacinthe Théodore Baron (1707-1787).
