Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - The study of phase transitions is one of the fundamental problems of physics. The goal of this seminar was to understand better the spectacular progress made recently in constructing continuum models. Concentrating on a few examples such as the microstructure of crystals, defects in liquid crystals and liquid-vapor interfaces, several key points are described, for example the structure and evolution of the interfaces, regularization via interfacial energy, and equilibrium theories. The mathematical treatment of these questions involves large-oscillation theories (Young's measures, compensated compactness), spectral theory, admissibility of shock waves, long-time behavior of dynamical systems, high-order perturbations, group actions, solitons, and others.…

320 x 243 mm. 30 double-page plates. Brown cloth. Fine. LIMITED FACSIMILE EDITION of 100 copies presented by Jerome R. Klingbeil, president of the California Society of Plastic Surgeons, Inc. This is the atlas accompanying the first systematic textbook of plastic surgery of the face. Serre was the chief exponent of the "sliding" or "grench" method, which he applied in his textbook in various facial operations. The method was intended originally for eyelid reconstruction, but was applied to replacing other parts "on the flat." Serre's textbook was the second general work on plastic surgery published in France, and the first with large atlas, which the author urged be perused before the text was read. The thirty highly finished double-page lithographs show before, during and after stages. Gnudi and Webster, p. 324; Dulieu, ed., La Medecine a Montpellier (1990), pp. 197-198; Hirsch, 26574; Zeis, pp. 102-108 and entry 643. J. Norman, 27: 280 (1993), offered the rare textbook and atlas for $6000. He remarked that that offering was "the first set we have handled in more than twenty years.".…
