It incorporates a selection of the contributions presented at the International Symposium on Aphids in Fremantle, Australia, in October 2005, plus some ad- tional invited chapters. The objective was to incorporate the major issues in the eld and simultaneously create a closely interrelated and integrated volume. The rst chapter sets the scene. Kindlmann and Dixon present a critical review of existing models of aphid population dynamics, examine the biological assumptions that are incorporated in the models and present one of the latest models of aphid metapopulation dynamics. They conclude that natural enemies are unlikely to affect aphid population dynamics late in a season, but in some years may have an effect very early in the season, when aphid colonies are still small and predators might be able to reduce the numbers of colonies. The question, whether aphids will move to different locations, adapt to the change in conditions in their current habitat or go extinct is discussed by Ameixa. She concludes that the distributions of aphids are most likely to change, with the distribution of each species moving globally as their preferred habitat moves in response to changes in the climate, which may be more dif cult than in the past because of habitat fragmentation and habitat loss.…

Jacques Philippe Raymond Draparnaud (1772-1804), a French botanist and zoologist, left at his death numerous manuscripts in various stages of completion. Only this work was published, the others have been lost. Complete copies with the supplement by Michaud of this important conchological work are rare. This reproduction was made in order to make the seldom offered but important malacological book available to a wider public. As only a few specialists demand this publication copies will be made on individual order only resulting in extremely limited editions. The books are printed on valuable paper, are half-cloth-bound and provided with hand-made oil paper. The spines are embossed in gold. altogether 336 pp. + 16 b/w pls, half linen [contemporary binding] [perfect copy].…

Brown buckram with gilt titles on the spine. = The first comprehensive work on French non-marine molluscs, written by the French malacologist Jacques Philippe Raymond Draparnaud (1772-1804). It contains excellent illustrations, and many species were described here for the first time. The original work was published posthumously. Much later (1831), it was updated and expanded by another French malacologist, Louis André Gaspard Michaud (1795-1880). Michaud's supplement is not often found combined with Draparnaud's work. The index, by Michaud, covers both works. Plate numbering is continuous, but page numbering of Michaud's part starts anew. Provenance: stamp of the American malacologist Richard Irwin Johnson (1925-2020) in the top margin of the front free endpaper and first half-title.
