Ausserdem wird auch untersucht, inwiefern sich das Konzept des garantierten Mindesteinkommens in die klassische Wohlfahrtsstaatstheorie einbetten lässt.Die Verfassung zahlreicher Staaten heben das Recht auf ein Leben in Würde hervor. Anders als in einer reinen Agrargesellschaft ist das Leben in einer arbeitsteiligen Volkswirtschaft ohne die Nutzung bestimmter Leistungen anderer nicht möglich. Dahrendorf (1986) meint dazu, dass ein Leben in Würde folglich ein finanzielles Einkommen voraussetzt. Wird dieses finanzielle Einkommen an Bedingungen geknüpft, wird auch das 'Leben in Würde' an Bedingungen geknüpft. (Dahrendorf, 1986)Während der Begriff des Grundeinkommens erst im 20. Jahrhundert aufgekommen ist, existierte die Idee eines Mindesteinkommens bereits lange davor. Es gibt verschiedene Definitionen des Begriffs des Grundeinkommens.
