In den WarenkorbTaschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Carter, Michael (illustrator). Neuware - Depression sucks. It is a cunning and deceitful ailment that sabotages any attempt at addressing it. As a clinician providing treatment for depression I have witnessed the struggle first hand when those suffering do all they can to make it to an appointment and once there, don't have anything to say. The days seem endless and everything runs together. Sometimes you can't sleep at night and other times you want to sleep around the clock. Nobody else gets it and you just don't have the energy to explain it one more time so you quit answering the phone. When I was desperate to crawl out of my own depression and technique fell flat, I recognized the root of this problem was much deeper than brain chemistry and behavior. I needed more than a pill that would start working in 2-3 weeks and a one-hour talk with someone. Do you suspect there may be a better way to deal with all of this Is there something you have missed If you are willing to look in the places most don't want to- if you are willing to ask yourself questions most of us stopped asking long ago- and if what you have been doing has not worked, you may be ready to receive what the Father has for those that are 'the poor in spirit' like I was.

In den WarenkorbTaschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Correct Systems looks at the whole process of building a business process model, capturing that in a formal requirements statement and developing a precise specification. The issue of testing is considered throughout the process and design for test issues are fundamental to the approach. A model (language) and a methodology are presented that is very powerful, very easy to use and applicable for the 'new world' of component based systems and the integration of systems from dependable components. This book discusses a new area which will be of interest to both software and hardware designers. It presents specification, design, implementation and testing in a user-oriented fashion using simple formal and diagramming techniques with a high level of user-friendliness. The first part provides a simple introduction to the method together with a complete, real case study. The second part describes, in detail, the mathematical theory behind the methods and the claims made.

In den WarenkorbTaschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - The field of biologically inspired computation has coexisted with mainstream computing since the 1930s, and the pioneers in this area include Warren McCulloch, Walter Pitts, Robert Rosen, Otto Schmitt, Alan Turing, John von Neumann and Norbert Wiener. Ideas arising out of studies of biology have permeated algorithmics, automata theory, artificial intelligence, graphics, information systems and software design. Within this context, the biomolecular, cellular and tissue levels of biological organisation have had a considerable inspirational impact on the development of computational ideas. Such innovations include neural computing, systolic arrays, genetic and immune algorithms, cellular automata, artificial tissues, DNA computing and protein memories. With the rapid growth in biological knowledge there remains a vast source of ideas yet to be tapped. This includes developments associated with biomolecular, genomic, enzymic, metabolic, signalling and developmental systems and the various impacts on distributed, adaptive, hybrid and emergent computation. This multidisciplinary book brings together a collection of chapters by biologists, computer scientists, engineers and mathematicians who were drawn together to examine the ways in which the interdisciplinary displacement of concepts and ideas could develop new insights into emerging computing paradigms. Funded by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the CytoCom Network formally met on five occasions to examine and discuss common issues in biology and computing that could be exploited to develop emerging models of computation.

In den WarenkorbTaschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Dr Peter Milton, Director of Programme Review, Quality Assurance Agency I am grateful to the authors for giving me the opportunity to write this foreword, mainly because it represents the first occasion that the Fund for the Development of Teaching and Learning (FDTL) has led directly to a pUblication such as this. In my former capacity as Director of Quality Assessment at the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), I chaired the FDTL Committee during 1996/7 and am delighted to see the projects which were selected so painstakingly leading to successful outcomes. Assessment of the quality of higher education (HE) was introduced in 1993 and was intended to improve public information about what was on offer in British universities and colleges, as well as to assist in the enhancement of educational opportunities for students. This was part of a larger agenda in which educational quality and the standards achieved by students have come under increasing scrutiny, with a long-term objective of linking funding allocations to the quality of the provision. It was in this context that the FDTL Initiative was launched in 1995 to support projects aimed at stimulating developments in teaching and learning and to encourage the dissemination of good practice across the HE sector. Good practice is identified through the process of quality assessment and bids for funding can only be made by those institutions which have demonstrated high quality provision. To date, the programme includes 63 projects drawn from 23 subject areas.
