A young librarian poses as a police officer for a one-time charity dance event, but attempts to maintain the ruse when he catches the attentions of a young, attractive policewoman. Light blue illustrated titled wrappers. Title page present, dated May 12, 1985, with credits for director Michael Dinner and screenwriter Mark Medoff. 141 leaves, with last page of text numbered 132. A pilot for an unproduced television series based on James Ellroy's 1990 neo-noir novel set in 1950s Los Angeles. The second of two unsuccessful attempts to adapt Ellroy's novel for the small screen, following one in 1999 starring Kiefer Sutherland. The 2019 pilot was never aired on television, and was ultimately released in 2003 as an extra on a special Blu-Ray edition of the 1997 film. Self wrappers. Title page present, dated March 12, 2018, noted as Production Draft, with credits for Ellroy and screenwriter Jordan Harper. 54 leaves, with last page of text numbered 48.
