Fotografie
Vintage black-and-white double weight British still photograph from the 1968 US film. Rubber stamp on the verso of COLTMAN DISPLAYS LTD, a distributor in Middlesex, England. "Vixen!" was one of Meyer's best, sleaziest, and most commercially successful films, made at the peak of his independent productions (after "Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!" in 1965 and before "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" in 1970). What is less well known is that this film, by way of Ms. Gavin, marked a breakthrough in the onscreen portrayal of women in terms of sexual aggression, using the then-new platform of late 1960s American independent cinema and the aftermath of the Summer of Love as a canvas. Gavin's titular character is a married woman whose sexual boundaries are none, but instead of being a typical sex romp, the film heads off into areas that can be reasonably described as unexplored by sexploitation films, including communism, race relations, political debate, and terrorist activity. But also present in the film are many of the genre's more familiar themes (breast size, incest, nonstop sexual activity) and a generous dose of humor. 8 x 10 inches. Very Good plus, with edge creasing and a single short tear.

Fotografie
Vintage borderless black-and-white press photograph of the sexploitation auteur Russ Meyer, as he talks poses for the camera before the release of his film, "Black Snake" (1973). One article affixed to the verso, authored by Bob Green for the Chicago Sun-Times, exclaiming "Russ Meyer: King of the Pop Porn Circuit." Also visible on the verso is a rubber stamp of the Detroit Free Press, dated Feb. 18, 1973, where photographer John Collier was employed, and a rubber stamp for Collier himself. Faint layout annotations to the recto. "Black Snake" was one of Meyer's only Blaxploitation films (one could argue "Vixen" was too), produced and financed solely by Meyer. Shot on location in Barbados, the film starred Anouska Hempel as "Lady Susan," a cruel plantation owner who dominates both black and white men with the aid of a black leather whip. Her dictatorship is tolerated only so long, and the slaves revolt. Of the film itself, Meyer begrudgingly cast Hempel as the lead, after his original lead had fallen ill from an apparent overdose. While Hempel was popular in England, having appeared in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" (1969), "Scars of Dracula" (1970), and "The Magnificent Seven Deadly Sins" (1971), the actress was not the typical voluptuous figure Meyer so often portrayed. The director even brought in a "bust" double for close-ups involving Lady Susan's torso. Ultimately, Meyer wrote off his own film as "a weak Mandingo." One positive note: actor David Prowse stars as Jonathan Walker, Lady Susan's husband, and he would go on to star as Darth Vader in "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope" (1977). 8 x 10 inches. Faint creasing and tiny staple holes, else Near Fine.

Manuskript / Papierantiquität
Vintage pressbook for the 1961 film. With his fourth feature, a 68-minute quickie, Russ Meyer continued to market the "nudie" film genre he basically invented in 1959 with his first film, "The Immoral Mr. Teas." He also continues to advertise the "French" sensibility ("bon vivant") of his films-once described as "a narrated Playboy magazine," with no real plot per se, just lots of buxom women shedding their clothing at every opportunity. One leaf, bifold. 8.5 x 11 inches. Near Fine.

Softcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Movie screenplay. Quarto. 145pp. Brad-bound, under textured green covers. Front cover with faint sunning, just a bit of wear, brads lightly oxidized, a very near fine copy. Title page states "Seventh Draft Revisions by Russ Meyer, October 8, 1977." The screenplay outlines a film about British punk rock band the Sex Pistols. Manager Malcolm McLaren's hope was to use the film to propel the band into the American music scene. The film, to be directed by Russ Meyer, saw just three days of production before 20th Century Fox withdrew and shooting was abandoned.

Archive of thirteen vintage oversize photographs by director Russ Meyer, including twelve in color and one in black-and-white. Five photographs signed by Meyer on the verso. All of the photographs are from an edition of 20 and are numbered on the verso, with all twelve color photographs numbered "1/20," and the black and white photograph numbered "2/20." Struck circa 2001, from Meyer's personal collection. Meyer is best known for his distinctive films in the sexploitation genre of the 1960s and 1970s, but also worked as a still photographer throughout his career, shooting for Playboy in the magazine's early years, including three centerfolds, one of which starred his then-wife, Eve Meyer. The earliest photographs in the collection, consistent with the "nudist" aesthetic of the period, are "Model Playing Ping Pong" (circa 1962), and "Blonde in the Grass" (circa 1964). Notable in the archive are images of Meyer regulars Lorna Maitland and Haji. Three of the photographs show the titular (sorry, we couldn't resist) star of Meyer's final film, "Pandora Peaks" (2001). All photographs 11 x 14 inches. Fine. Two matted with 8 ply archival mats, with mats measuring 16 x 20 inches. Four with remnants of archival tape in the top margins. All as originally preserved by Meyer. Signed.
