R., sowie Reste alten Klebefilms, Ebd. an den Kanten berieben, leichte Gbrsp. - Metrovic, (1883 - 1962), wuchs in Otavice in Dalmatien auf. 1900 studierte er ein Jahr bei Harald Bilinic… in Split, um dann nach Wien an die Akademie der schönen Künste zu gehen (1901-1906). Während dieser Zeit trat er zusammen mit den Künstlern der Wiener Secession auf (Ausstellung 1910 in Wien und Zagreb). Nach dem Studium in Wien, verbrachte Metrovic einige Jahre in Paris (ab 1908) und verband immer stärker Mythos und Symbolismus in seinen Werken, Themen in dieser Zeit europaweit Einfluß auf Künstler hatten. 1911 gewann er den ersten Preis für Bildhauerei auf der Weltausstellung in Rom. Mit der Gestaltung der Familienkapelle Racic in Cavtat (1920-1921), wird eine Wende in seinem Schaffen dokumentiert, die in seiner Übersiedlung nach Zagreb mündete. Hier lehrte er als Kunstprofessor an der Kunstakademie ab 1922. In dieser Zeit schuf er weiters das Strossmayer-Denkmal in Zagreb, das Denkmal Grgur Ninski in Split und das Indianer-Denkmal in Chicago (1928). Metrovic ging 1942 nach Rom, 1943 in die Schweiz und lebte ab 1947 in den USA. Hier arbeitete er sowohl an der Syracuse University, New York, als auch an der University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, wo er 1962 starb. Die Galerie Metrovic (Palast und Kastellan) in Split und das Atelier Metrovic in Zagreb beherbergen eine Vielzahl seiner Arbeiten.
