Édition originale française de cette compilation de traités sur la verrerie établie par le baron d'Holbach à partir de ses traductions des traités d'Antonio Neri, Christopher Merret, Johann Kunckel von Löwenstern et de divers autres mémoires sur cet art, auxquels le Baron fit des ajouts. Exemplaire bien complet de son frontispice et de ses 15 planches dépliantes reliées en fin d'ouvrage (16 planches au total). NERI (Antoine), chimiste italien, né à Florence. Il vivait au XVIe siècle, entra dans les ordres, mais s'adonna exclusivement à son goût pour les sciences, visita une partie de 1'Europe et se lia avec les plus célèbres savants de son temps. Neri est un des premiers chimistes qui aient écrit sur la fabrication du verre. Brunet IV 41, Quérard VI 401. Défauts sur la reliure (coiffes partiellement manquantes, anciennes et saines traces de mouillures sur les plats, coins frottés), quelques piqûres, sans conséquence, sinon bon exemplaire de l'un des tous premiers traités sur l'art de la verrerie.

Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Das Werk des lippischen Architekten Gustav Meßmann eignet sich besonders dazu, das Augenmerk der Architekturgeschichtsschreibung auf die kleinstädtische Situation in Deutschland in der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts zu lenken. Meßmann übernahm 1903 in seiner Heimatstadt Lage das Amt des Stadtbaumeisters. Seine Bauten, die hier erstmalig in ihrer Gesamtheit dokumentiert sind, werden auf Entwurfsprinzipien für Grundriß und Außenbau analysiert. Anhand mehrerer Beispiele zeichnet die Autorin Meßmanns baukünstlerische Entwicklung nach. Im kleinstädtischen Wirkungskreis mit breitgefächertem Aufgabenfeld sah Meßmann nicht nur fachliche Kenntnisse gefordert, sondern setzte sich für die Einbettung der Architektur in das landschaftliche Umfeld im Sinne der Heimatschutzidee ein.
