Bad Herrenalbs Bedeutung als Kurort zeigte sich schon früh, denn im Jahr 1841 gründete erstmals der Arzt Dr. J. Weiß eine Kaltwasserheilanstalt. Diese wurde dann später in eine Wasserheilanstalt mit einem Sanatorium für Nervenkranke umgestaltet. Zu dieser Zeit und bis nach der Jahrhundertwende stand diese Heilanstalt unter der Leitung von Hofrat Dr. Mermagen. Den Status als "Heilklimatischer Kurort" erhielt Bad Herrenalb im Jahr 1954 und seit man 1971 bei Bohrungen auf eine mineralreiche Quelle gestoßen ist, wurde aus dem Ort Herrenalb der Ort Bad Herrenalb.
