A photographic a…ccount of Meriwether's stay at a Tuberculosis sanatorium. Agnes Memorial Sanatorium, now part of the Lowry Air Force Base, was a non-profit, a medical campus for low-income, early-onset tuberculosis victims who could probably be successfully treated and returned to work. The complex was built in 1902 on what is now Sixth Avenue in Denver's Lowry neighborhood by Lawrence C. Philips as a charitable endeavor in honor of his mother who had died of TB. Philips began his career as a clerk at Carnegie Steel and worked his way up to become the company's first vice-president. He subsequently moved to Colorado where he became a noted philanthropist and served as a senator from 1918 to 1930. The photographs are mostly captioned and show the facilities buildings, staff, and patients. A number of the photographs show patients engaged in recreation including shooting, billiards, Halloween festivities (some in blackface), and Christmas parties as well as resting and dining in bed.
