With a laid-in printed slip stating that the book is from Geismar's library. Geismar [1909-1979] was an American author, literary critic, and biographer who was a professor at Sarah Lawrence College, in Yonkers, NY, for many years. He also wrote the introduction for Eldridge Cleaver's "Soul Of Ice" and signed the "Triple Revolution" statement sent to President Johnson in 1964. A nice association copy and books signed by Mendelson are uncommon. Very Good (little soil covers & bit of browning last few pages); some edgewear & rubbing d/j. $125.00.

Concludes with Russian bibliography of Whitman's works, and name index section. The inscribed copy of Alvah Bessie, one of the Hollywood Ten, whose writing focused on Spain and the Soviet Union.
