Christian Thomasius war ein deutscher Jurist und Philosoph. Er gilt als Wegbereiter der Frühaufklärung in Deutschland und wird gelegentlich als Vater der deutschen Aufklärung" bezeichnet. Thomasius trug durch sein Eintreten für eine humane Strafordnung im Sinne der Aufklärung wesentlich zur Abschaffung der Hexenprozesse und der Folter bei. Lüder Mencke war ein deutscher Gelehrter und Jurist. Nach den handschriftlichen Notizen auf dem vorderen Spiegel 1928 erworben von der Landesbibliothek zu Altenburg, Einband erneuert [Rücken] 1940 in Berlin. Mit farbigem Exlibris der Familien-Sammlung von Lindenau, das auf die älteste Historie der Familie Bezug nimmt. Lüder Mencke (1658-1726) galt zu seiner Zeit als wichtigster Schüler Adam Struves. Bis zu seinem Tod lehrte er in Leipzig römisches und sächsisches Recht. "Eine Fülle von Lehrbüchern, Kompendien und Gesetzessammlungen, die die sächsische juristische Tradition zusammenstellten und übersichtlich ordneten, trug ihm große Anerkennung bei den Zeitgenossen ein" (NDB XVII, 33).
