Die Ausgangsstoffe wurden charakterisiert: 1) handelsübliches Harz: Differential-Scanning-Kalorimetrie (DSC), Thermogravimetrie (TG), Infrarotspektroskop…ie (IR) und Röntgenfluoreszenz, und 2) Kieselgur: Röntgenbeugung (XRD), DSC, TG, IR, Differentialthermoanalyse (DTA), chemische Analyse, Oberflächenanalyse nach der BET-Methode, Partikelgrößenanalyse. Es wurden Kontrollproben und Testproben (Ausgangsmaterial plus Kieselgur) hergestellt. Es wurden mechanische Tests durchgeführt (Druckfestigkeit, diametrale Zugfestigkeit, Verschleißfestigkeit, Bewertung der Mikrohärte und der Oberflächenrauhigkeit) und eine neue Charakterisierung der Kontroll- und Testproben (TG, DTA, XRD, optische Mikroskopie (OM) und Rasterelektronenmikroskopie (SEM)) vorgenommen. Das Ergebnis ist ein noch nie dagewesenes, universell einsetzbares Restaurationsmaterial mit mechanischen Eigenschaften, die denen des Ausgangsmaterials überlegen sind, zu erschwinglichen Kosten, das durch die Verknüpfung von Wissen aus der Zahnmedizin und der Werkstofftechnik synthetisiert und charakterisiert wurde.
